Summary

Our customer was developing customised steering arms to compliment other products in their range and needed a partner to take the designs from development to production status. We were able to propose many DFMA (Design For Manufacture and Assembly) improvements and also offer a quick response supply route to meet customer demand for prototypes and production quantities.

Solution

We worked with the customer to agree revised drawing details especially production tolerances to make sure that every component would fit right first time and also to select more appropriate or commercially available materials to meet exacting performance requirements. This project involved some interesting supply challenges as to find the right raw materials in the correct format for ease of manufacture and in a reasonable delivery timescale. The project developed with several variants and different order phases to meet our customers order pattern.

Results

We had to undergo a few running changes to customer requirements during the development and supply of these items so that added to the management task, but with every unit passing a strict load testing regime before delivery we we confident that we had fully met the requirements.

Future

We are always on the lookout for new and interesting lifting and handling problems where we can help our customers achieve their goals. As in this case we took the design concept through to production, but equally we can also offer design and full prototyping services if also required.
